Curious about the Tale of Two Revolutions: Bastille and AI?

by | 16th January 2024

On 14th July, 1789, a crowd of revolutionaries stormed the Bastille, a medieval fortress-prison in Paris.

The fortress symbolised royal authority and was seen as a representation of the monarchy’s tyranny and oppression. The attack on the Bastille was a major turning point in the French Revolution, as it signified the beginning of the uprising against the monarchy and the quest for liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The French Revolution had a profound impact not only on France but also on the course of world history, as it inspired other nations to fight for their own freedom and democracy.

The rapid development of technology from the 1700s through the 20th and 21st centuries has taken us to where we are today.

Today’s BIG revolution is Artificial Intelligence, aka AI. Although you may not notice it, AI is very much all around us today. Recommendations on platforms like Amazon, Netflix, or Tesco use AI to personalise our “experience”. This can make our interactions with technology more efficient and useful.

And then there’s ChatGPT, which is in the news a lot these days. Here’s a short list of things you can use it for:

  • Creating a letter to the council to complain about potholes,
  • Find out how to make meringues (I did this – my meringues were rubbish because I got a bit of egg yolk in the mix)
  • Create a meal plan for the week
  • Helping with your child’s / grandchild’s homework (don’t tell teacher!)
  • Finding out about Bastille Day on 14th July
  • The world’s your lobster!

One word of caution when using ChatGPT… ALWAYS keep your personal details, personal; keep them to yourself!

If you’ve got any questions about IT, you can also ask our own chatbot, which you can find on our website on the button at the bottom right of every page. Give it a whirl. It’s very good!
